The mission of Northglade Montessori Magnet School, a diverse nurturing family of students, educators and parents, is to prepare each student to become a well-educated, responsible and respectful contributor to family and community by enhancing academic achievement through a literature-rich curriculum that integrates technology, addresses individual needs (social, emotional, academic, and physical) and unique talents, in partnership with family and the community.

How can I encourage my child(ren) to read?

Some teachers say that reading is the most basic of all learning activities. Kids need to be able to read so they can learn other subjects and communicate what they already know. Reading can help children learn throughout their lives. And reading can be one of the cheapest . . . and most enjoyable forms of entertainment.
Here are some ways you can encourage your child to read :

Some teachers say that reading is the most basic of all learning activities. Kids need to be able to read so they can learn other subjects and communicate what they already know. Reading can help children learn throughout their lives. And reading can be one of the cheapest . . . and most enjoyable forms of entertainment.

Here are some ways you can encourage your child to read :
¨ Expect your child(ren) to read each day. Set aside a special quiet time for reading and make it part of the daily routine.

¨ Have books and magazines available. A weekly trip to the library can keep your home filled with interesting things for your child(ren) to read.

¨ Limit the amount of time spent watching television. Time spent in front of the TV is time that isn't spent reading.

¨ Let your child(ren) see you reading. What you read doesn't matter. You might read the sports pages. You might pick up a mystery novel. But your child(ren) will see that you make time for reading.

¨ Try reading aloud. Of course, young children should be read to each day. But kids are never too old to enjoy hearing a favorite book read aloud.

April’s Grace & Courtesy Focal Points:

· When visitors ask, “How are you?” your answer should include, “I am fine. How are you?”

· Give a sincere compliment to someone doing good things. Start your statements with words like…”I like how…”, “That was really good when…” “I noticed when…” “Nice job on…”
