The mission of Northglade Montessori Magnet School, a diverse nurturing family of students, educators and parents, is to prepare each student to become a well educated, responsible and respectful contributor to family and community by enhancing academic achievement through a literature rich curriculum that integrates technology, addresses individual needs (social, emotional, academic, and physical) and unique talents, in partnership with family and the community.

Our School Is A Success!!!!

We recently received GREAT news from the American Montessori Society (AMS). A national team of AMS experts observed all aspects of the environment and judged our work against a rigorous set of standards. Their findings revealed the following:
High Quality Learning Takes Place in All Classrooms
Students work at their own pace and celebrate gains when setting new goals.
Students understand and demonstrate respect for self, others, and the environment.
Teachers demonstrate a strong sense of commitment and passion for working with students.
The environment showcases beautiful resources.

The AMS Board of Directors will finalize the accreditation process in March for our fine school. (Hooray!!!)

Have You Checked Out Our Website?

Our website (www.northglademontessori.org) features helpful links to health issues for children, fundraiser initiatives, school news, PTO updates, background information on Montessori, etc. We continue to routinely improve our site to appeal to and address the needs of our families and the wider public. Language Development in the Children’s House

The direct aim of language presentations in the Children’s House is to support the development of language during the period of the absorbent mind and appeal to the sensitive period for language, which is essential for the development of the whole being in our culture. The indirect aim is to gain specific knowledge of writing, reading, pencil control, auditory discrimination, and visual discrimination. The language curriculum prepares for abstraction for more complex skills.

Do You Know the Basics of Childhood Asthma?

It seems like many parents are talking about childhood asthma these days. Schools across the state have reported in an increased number of children with asthmatic conditions. As a precautionary measure, we will discuss the following questions at our PTO meeting in November.

What is Asthma?

Asthma (Az-muh) is a chronic disease that affects your airways (the tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs). The inside walls of your airways become inflamed (swollen) making the airways very sensitive and strongly reactive to allergens.

What are the Symptoms?

The symptoms of asthma for most children include coughing, wheezing and difficulty breathing, and they may be brought on or triggered by having a cold, changes in the weather, exercise or exposure to cigarette smoke, pollen, mold, animals, and pollution. If you can learn the things that trigger your child’s asthma problems, it can help to avoid them.

How Do You Prevent an Asthma Attack?

The goal of treating asthma is that your child be symptom free and able to perform his/her normal activities. Asthma should not usually limit your child’s activities, unless s/he is having an asthma attack at the time. In addition to avoiding triggers, asthma is prevented by taking daily preventative medications. Read more about asthma at http://www.pediatrics.about.com/
