The mission of Northglade Montessori Magnet School, a diverse nurturing family of students, educators and parents, is to prepare each student to become a well-educated, responsible and respectful contributor to family and community by enhancing academic achievement through a literature-rich curriculum that integrates technology, addresses individual needs (social, emotional, academic, and physical) and unique talents, in partnership with family and the community.
What You Need to Know about Peanut Allergies
Peanut allergies are common in schools today. At Northglade, we take precautionary measures to reduce the risk of affected students having reactions to peanuts. If your children have a reaction to peanuts, a doctor should be consulted. Tests can help diagnose peanut allergies. An allergy to peanuts involves an immune system response (a reaction to proteins found in peanuts). Exposure to peanuts (through direct or cross contact and inhalation) may cause immediate reactions, such as itching, redness, swelling, shortness of breath, wheezing, nausea, abdominal pain, lightheadedness or loss of consciousness. Common foods that can trigger peanut allergy systems include (but not limited to) peanut butter and flour, nuts, energy bars, salad dressing, grain breads, etc. Read more about peanut allergies online at http://www.mayoclinic.com/. or http://www.peanutallergykids.com/.

Mathematics at the Elementary One (E1) Level…An Overview for Parents
The study of mathematics can help children understand their culture and place in the on going story of human life. Math in the
Montessori environment can aid children by developing tools of the trade, along with reading and writing skills, and knowledge of numbers and mathematical operations. This
level of understanding is essential for
children living in an advance
technological world of science, computer, and high technology.
Montessori mathematics is presented to excite the child’s imagination. This allows children to work with their hands, follow sequential order, and receive presentations in the context of history and culture. With this approach, excitement and inquisitiveness for mathematics is developed. Children gain a deeper understanding of the decimal system, its function, and the value of numbers which moves them forward to a more abstract level of work; and as a result, allowing them to grasp the concepts of geometry, fractions, and decimals. The Elementary Two Level of mathematics builds on E1 concepts
“Whoever touches the life of a child touches the most sensitive point of a whole which has roots in the most distant past and climbs toward the infinite future…”
