Northglade Partners with Kalamazoo College to Study and Enjoy Science!

We are excited to work wit the dedicated science instructors and students from Kalamazoo College in preparing for our upcoming Sizzling Science Fair in May. Our wonderful students will participate in hands on experiments to enhance their understanding of science. Through this meaningful exchange with the local college, students will learn to enjoy and appreciate science in everyday life. Plan on asking your child)ren) questions about their exciting topics and activities. The goal is to inspire students to explore, dream, and plan on pursuing their interests in science. Effective science education prepares students for careers that promote the improvement of the human condition.

School Improvement Highlights

As a school family, we pledge to implement activities during the 2006-2007 school year that…

  • Build stronger mathematicians, readers, and writers using research based strategies.
  • Provide students with techniques to resolve conflicts with peers.
  • Provide opportunities for high parental involvement
  • Promote success for all learners in the environment through planned professional opportunities for staff.

How Can Parents Help With Study Skills ?
The best place to do work assignments at home is in an organized study spot. It can be as large as a room or as small as a desk, or at one end of the kitchen table, as long as it meets your child's needs. Help your child(ren) find a place that is:

  • Neat. It's hard to study in the middle of a mess. Shelves, files and desk organizers can make a big difference.
  • Stocked. Make sure your child has all the supplies he needs, such as pencils, paper, a dictionary, etc. This reduces disruptions and preparation time.
  • Attractive. Decorations, such as plants and photos, can make a study area more pleasant. But they shouldn,t be distracting.

Tip: Encourage your child to study in the same place every day. Why? Children become "conditioned" to study in one spot. Soon they can automatically concentrate there. (Title I 2006)

Friendly Reminder:

Please review all school, playground, and bus safety rules with your child(ren). We expect all students to observe the Golden Rules at all times:
Respect for Self, Others, and the Environment. Thank you for supporting teaching and learning.
